Hidden Cotswold Tours

Hidden Cotswold Tour
7th June 2024

I collected Steve, Nancy and Jeff, and Charlie and Sarah from their hotel in Bath.
We set off on a tour of the South and Central Cotswolds on a rare sunny day in June.
I really did enjoy your company for the day, learning about “Merrica”! and some very precisce and objective views.
With best wishes to you all and I hope Charlie you enjoy the tree work and Sarah that you have a great time at College.
If giving reviews is something you do, I would really appreciate a few words on Tripadvisor 😊

Lacock Village
Lacock Village

Lacock Abbey

The village of Lacock dates from the 13th century and has many lime-washed half-timbered and stone houses. The Abbey was founded in 1232 and converted into a country house around 1540.  The fine medieval cloisters, sacristy, chapter house and monastic rooms of the Abbey have survived largely intact.

Castle Combe

Castle Combe

Castle Combe has been described as the prettiest village in the Cotswolds. This magical and ancient village, mentioned to the Domesday Book of 1086, was once a weaving town at the heart of the Cotswold’s wool trade. Now a popular tourist destination with good reason.

Malmesbury

Malmesbury is rightly called the “Queen of Hilltop Towns” being England’s oldest borough with a rich history over 1000 years. Officially Malmesbury can be traced back to the fifth century, but modern excavations have revealed the remains of an Iron Age Fort, which casts the settlement possibly as far back as 500 BC. Malmesbury is also home to England’s oldest hotel, the Old Bell, which has been offering bed and board since 1220.

Arlington Row Bibury June 2023
Arlington Row

Bibury

The main attraction of Bibury is Arlington Row.  A group of ancient cottages with steeply pitched roofs.  Originally built in the 14th Century as a wool store, they were converted to cottages in the 16th Century. This image appears in some UK Passports.

We stopped for lunch at the New Inn in Coln St Aldwyns for a delicious burger.
Thank you very much for treating me 😋

The Market House Tetbury
Market Hall tetbury

Tetbury

The town of Tetbury is proud of its 1300 years of recorded history since 681 when Tetta’s Monastery was mentioned in a charter by King Ethelred of Mercia. Now famous for the annual Woolsack Race and numerous antique shops.

Unfortuntely, by the time we got to Tetbury the shops were closed, denying Nancy the opportunity to browse the many antique shops in the town.😒
