I had been in touch with Nancy in the run up to the tour and was looking forward to meeting the family. Don, Matthew and Michaela, Danny and Ryan. I was in Blockley at 10:00am to pick them up. Following introductions, and a brief discussion we were ready to set off.
Our first stop was Donnington Brewery and a look at the Mill Pond and the water wheel. It was also the first opportunity for Matthew and Michaela to unfold themselves from the back row of seats.
From Donnington it was a short journey up the hill to Stow-on-the-Wold. I took them to the church to see Tolkein's inspiration for the Doors of Durin. And on to see the Porch House which dates back to 947 AD. There was a brief stop at Crewe Clothing's 50% Sale!
It was a longer jouney to Burford due to a road closure and I am sure they were more tham ready to stretch their legs and have a walk down the high street. We met up and went into the Church where we all learnt the symbolism of the Eagle Lectern.
We drove very slowly through Bourton-on-the-Water as it was way too busy to stop. I let everyone out again at Lower Slaughter to enjoy a short walk along the river Eye. We met up and drove up to Upper Slaughter. We stopped briefly but did not get out.
It was now time for lunch and I suggetsed the Fox at Barrington. This is one of the Donnington Pubs and it was good to see them enjoying the beer. It was great to sit outside in the beautiful setting down by the river Windrush. Thank you for treating me 😊
After lunch everyone climbed back in the car and we drove on to Stanway House. A quick look around the house and watch the spectacular gravity fed fountain before I direceted them on a short walk up to the village of Stanton. I was at the end of the footpath to meet them.
Broadway Tower was closed by the time we arrived but we still managed to walk around the tower. Then back in the car and on to Chipping Campden. As time was short I drove slowly through the town pointing out places they might want to visit whislt they are in the area

It was such a pleasure spending the day with all of you. When I first saw you all I was worried that my vehicle would be a problem. But, somehow, you all managed to squeeze in! I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip here. With my best wishes to you all. Peter
